Draft Childminding Regulations: We want to thank all the childminders and parents who contributed to the Consultation Process. The Department are expected to issue the Consultation report in the near future. Throughout this process we have been lobbying Government and Public Representatives, we hope that your input combined with our lobbying will result in the necessary changes being made to the Draft Regulations.
The Child Care Act (amendment) 2024 was discussed in the Dail last week, the debate took place over 2 days and you can view the full text of the Debate Day 1 June 19th and Debate Day 2 June 20th. The legal impact of this amendment, if passed, will be to remove the current childminding exemption clause. There will be a 3-year transition period, during which childminders can choose to register with Tusla or not register. Once the transition period expires, all childminders who are being paid to mind children, that are not related to them and for more than 2 hours per day, will be required to register.
Childminding Ireland continues to lobby all public representatives in relation to the proposed changes coming to childminding. We are continuously reiterating in the strongest possible terms the wide-ranging views and concerns that childminders have raised with us.
